In the unlikely event the upgrade is not completed by Monday evening, some of our systems may still be down on Tuesday, May 29. Please call 954-765-4400 to verify our systems are up and running before coming to Government Center West to conduct business.

"Code Awareness and Safety" Expo June 23

New Regulations Govern Tow Truck Companies
Broward County Commissioners have approved new regulations aimed at making tow truck companies more "customer friendly." The new rules will make finding a towed car easier, paying to get it released easier and give customers plenty of information about why a car was towed along with an itemized list of charges. View a complete copy of the new Ordinance here

About Us

The Permitting, Licensing and Consumer Protection Division protects public safety, health and welfare by administering and enforcing all applicable building, zoning and consumer protection ordinances, codes, laws, rules, resolutions and regulations in effect in Broward County, Florida.

This is accomplished by:

  • Administering and enforcing the Florida Building Code and Minimum Housing/Unsafe Structure regulations and such other County ordinances and laws relating to permitting that affect land, property structures and the environment in the unincorporated areas of Broward County and those cities in Broward County which contract for related services.
  • Enforcing the Florida Building Code by performing plan review, inspections and issuing permits and Certificates of Occupancy for construction projects in unincorporated areas of Broward County and on a cost recovery only basis to cities which contract for these services.
  • Enforcing Florida's Elevator Safety Code for all elevators/escalators and other lift devices throughout Broward County by reviewing plans, conducting inspections and issuing construction/alteration/repair permits, temporary use permits and certificates of operation.
  • Issuing certificates of competency to construction tradespeople who contract with property owners to perform that work throughout Broward County; and providing liaison and administrative support to the Broward County Central Examining Boards (Building Construction Trades, Electrical Trades, Engineered Construction Trades, Plumbing Trades, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Trades, Mechanical Construction Trades and Tree Trimmers), the Unsafe Structures Board, Code Enforcement Board and all related advisory and regulatory boards.
  • Administering and enforcing Broward County ordinances by issuing permits and licenses to regulate owners and drivers of taxicabs, limousines and transport vans; auto body/paint shops and auto repair shops and their technicians; movers of household goods and sellers of kosher food.
  • Enforcing consumer protection laws by investigating and mediating complaints from individuals who feel they are victims of unfair or deceptive trade practices, and by providing consumer information and referral.
